Is That Porno?!

Hi! I'm Tiene ("Tina") owner of Kasteel Boudoir and I'm here to be your

Boudoir MythBuster!

Boudoir Photography - is a very misunderstood thing.

Myth #1: Boudoir = Porno

Let's start with the origin of the term "boudoir". Back in the late 18th century a woman's "boudoir" (boo-dwah-rghrgh --> *throaty G*) was her private quarters. A place for her to get ready for fancy balls, take a breather from all her gentlemen callers, or just relax and read or knit, etc...

The term "boudoir" where photography is concerned essentially relates to capturing a woman in a relaxed state where she can be her own beautiful self.

Myth #2: You have to get naked for boudoir pictures.

It's not about "gettin' a woman nekkid".

(If that is the vibe you are getting from ANY photographer - RUN!)

It's about appreciating yourself completely, even when you feel vulnerable.

You don't HAVE to wear lingerie... Many women choose to because it's therapeutic and freeing. And, let's be real, MANY of us have wondered what it would feel like to be a Victoria Secret Angel.

It's not about taking pictures of you in lingerie, but loving yourself in only lingerie.

OR an off-the-shoulder sweater...

OR a button-up shirt...

OR ... A cute two piece

Honestly, the outfit possibilities are end-less.

So if you've been holding back from checking a boudoir shoot off your bucket list because you don't want to get naked - let THAT Myth be Busted!

Myth #3: "Good" Christians don't do that.

Let me tell you something... This has been a challenging thing in the South.

Feelings that I too, as a woman of faith, faced at one point before my first time experiencing a photo shoot of this nature.

God made you exactly the way you are. Learning to love yourself/loving yourself in the skin you're in does NOT make you a hussy.

I have had the pleasure of working with many different women;

moms, daughters, single, married, Christians, atheists, Wiccans, Democrats, Republicans, in their 20's, in their 50's, ...

One of the MOST important things is that you feel comfortable with who you select as your boudoir photographer. That you trust them and that they respect your wishes.

Make sure you always read their contracts well (some have it worded slyly).

Especially if it is vital to you that your photos are not shared. Some photographers (like I) have a separate model release agreement they will have you sign for permission to use your photos.

Myth #4: Boudoir is always in the bedroom

WRONG! All you need is you. Because boudoir is an intimate expression of yourself, you can technically do it anywhere.

At the beach...

In a bathtub...

In a parking deck stairwell...

The opportunities on an adventure to discover yourself are endless.

So I hereby declare those BOUDOIR MYTHS OFFICIALLY BUSTED!

Don't hold yourself back from self-love.

ADVENTURE AWAITS.
